Our Client: Our client is a distinguished player in the consumer goods industry renowned for its robust presence and performance in the region. As part of their strategic expansion, they are seeking an accomplished General Manager to lead their operations in Baghdad, Iraq. This is a pivotal role within a dynamic business environment that combines local relevance with international standards.

Your Role: As General Manager, you will step into a critical leadership role, owning the mandate to drive sustainable business growth and operational excellence across the Iraq market. This position demands strategic foresight, strong execution capabilities, and a high degree of techno-commercial fluency. Reporting directly to senior leadership, you will:

  • Lead Strategy Development: Craft long-term and mid-term business strategies and annual budget plans in close collaboration with the Executive/Managing Directors and Board members.
  • Accelerate Business Development: Identify and capitalize on growth opportunities through market expansion, new product introductions, and competitive positioning, keeping a close eye on market trends and customer needs.
  • Manage P&L: Take full ownership of business performance, ensuring revenue growth, market share enhancement, and profitability.
  • Drive Operational Excellence: Oversee and optimize end-to-end operations—production, supply chain, cost-to-serve—maximizing factory efficiency and service delivery.
  • Strengthen Stakeholder Relations: Build and nurture trusted relationships with government bodies, JV partners, customers, suppliers, and internal teams—particularly within the Iraqi context.
  • Inspire and Develop Talent: Champion leadership development, align cross-functional teams with business objectives, and provide coaching to unlock team potential and performance.
  • Lead Projects and Innovation: Drive initiatives for new business models, improve margins, and pilot strategic projects to future-proof the business.

Must Have:

  • 18+years of progressive experience, including at least 5 years in a P&L leadership role within the FMCG sector.
  • Current or prior experience in Iraq is an absolute must have.
  • Strong techno-commercial grounding, especially within the food industry.
  • Proven track record managing cross-functional areas such as production, R&D, marketing, sales, and supply chain.
  • Exceptional financial and commercial acumen; comfortable with pricing strategy, product portfolio management, and operational levers.
  • Resilience and adaptability in navigating complex and evolving markets, with a talent for crafting and executing contingency strategies.
